WHAT IS A MARITAL STATUS CERTIFICATE
A certificate of marital status in Ukraine is an official document drawn up on a notarial form of strict reporting by a notary in Ukraine. This document contains information about the marital status of a person from his or her own words. Previously, such a document was issued by the territorial body of the Civil Registry Office at the place of residence until 2007. After new legislative acts came into force, the certificate of marital status was canceled in Ukraine. As of today, the only option left for documentary confirmation and replacement of the canceled certificate is a notarial statement of marital status in Ukraine.
HOW TO FORM A MARITAL STATUS CERTIFICATE

A statement of marital status, or as it is also called a certificate of unmarried status or a certificate of not being married, is issued by any notary - public or private, who carries out his activities on the territory of Ukraine.

WHY DO I NEED A CERTIFICATE OF NON-MARRIAGE

A certificate of marital status (singleness) is in great demand at the moment. A certificate of marital status is absolutely required abroad for marriage registration. When contacting the relevant foreign structure that deals with marriage registration, this confirming certificate for registering a legal marriage with a foreign citizen is almost always included in the list of documents. A certificate of non-marriage confirms the fact that the future groom or bride is not married at this moment. A certificate of non-marriage is especially relevant in cases where a person was not in a registered marriage at all, since a notarial statement of non-marriage is, in fact, the only document that can confirm this fact. Unlike persons whose marriage has been dissolved - in such cases, a court decision on divorce or a certificate of dissolution of marriage is often an alternative to a certificate of non-marriage.

WHAT DATA IS IN THE MARITAL STATUS CERTIFICATE

When drawing up a notarial statement of non-marriage, various variations of the wording of the document text may be used. This is important when drafting the text of the statement, since in almost all cases the statement of non-marriage is submitted abroad and will be apostilled and translated into the language you need. Apostilling the document confirms its legality of issuance and legal force abroad. The translation must be notarized to confirm the qualifications of the translator so that the document is readable in institutions of foreign countries. Several variants of facts may be supported in the statement of marital status:

  • the applicant at the time of signing the application is not married and has never been married;
  • the applicant at the time of signing the application for marital status is not married, as the previous marriage was dissolved;
  • the applicant at the time of signing the application for marital status is a widower (widow) and is not married.

Note: this application is almost 100% completed by citizens if they have never been married.

If a person is married and the marriage was dissolved on the basis of a court order or on the basis of a joint application for dissolution through the Civil Registry Office, then the certificate of marital status is replaced by a court decision or a certificate of divorce.
