CHANGE OF FATHER'S NAME (PATRONYMIC) FOR CITIZENS OF UKRAINE

On January 1, 2021, a law came into force in Ukraine that allows a citizen to change his or her patronymic. It will be possible to change the patronymic by an independent decision from the age of 16 or from the age of 14, but with the consent of both parents. This can be done only through RACs (Civil Status Registration Departments).

A citizen must submit a passport of Ukraine, birth certificate, marriage certificate (if married) and if there are minor children, their birth certificate are required too. The application is made immediately on the computer, the applicant pays a state fee of UAH 51.

Next, the police will check whether the change of the patronymic is not to hide one's identity, or to avoid certain responsibility. The verification procedure can take up to three months.
